How To Find Safety Jobs

Looking for a job in this economy can be stressful, but don't let the market get you down! With a little extra effort and some clever job-hunting moves, the perfect safety job will be yours in no time.

Check with your local government. After several large-scale disasters (9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, in particular) got the attention of our governments, preparedness and safety have become top priority. Go online regularly to your official city website - many local governments post safety jobs online.

Use online search engines. Take time to familiarize yourself with several online job boards - these sites allow you to search for safety jobs by location, specialty, and type. Make sure to bookmark the sites in your internet browser's "Favorites" folder and check back regularly for new job postings.

Become a safety consultant. Many companies prefer to hire external safety contractors, so you may want to consider becoming self-employed as a safety consultant. Becoming a safety trainer is another great option - companies and organizations often bring in outside trainers to teach safety principles to their regular employees.

Be a safe person. If you're going to tell other people how to make safe choices, your own record needs to be squeaky clean. Many employers like to check up on their potential safety job candidates, and you may be asked for permission to do a background check (especially if you are looking for jobs in security or government).
