Safety Jobs

Organizations, governments, and companies have an obligation to provide a safe working environment for their employees. For this reason, they often hire safety experts to maintain a secure and safe workplace. If you are good with details and want to help others, then safety jobs may be right for you. The main categories of safety jobs are occupational safety, risk management, and government/military safety. Let's look at each of these fields more closely:

Occupational Safety - The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) has been regulating safety and health in the workplace since 1971. Under this act, all employers must provide an environment free from recognized hazards, such as exposure to toxic chemicals, excessive noise levels, mechanical dangers, heat or cold stress, and unsanitary conditions. In keeping with OSHA requirements, federal and state governments have created an extensive list of regulations. People who have occupational safety jobs are responsible for making sure a company meets these requirements.

Risk Management - Risk management safety jobs help organizations minimize the probability of unsafe conditions. The calculation of risk is based on the likelihood of harm and the severity of the possible consequences. Jobs in risk management require extensive mathematical knowledge and computer skills.

Government and Military Safety - The United States government employs a large percentage of safety experts for both civilian and military purposes. Public safety roles within the military include law enforcement/security specialists, as well as on-base protection services. The key public safety careers in the military are the Military Police Corps and Army Firefighters.

Local governments across the nation hire various kinds of safety and security professionals, including police officers, fire fighters, and emergency preparedness teams.
